Someday we’ll get tired of pumpkin everything – but it is not this day.
Pumpkin seeds are an excellent source of zinc and tryptophan – the amino acid responsible for producing the “happy hormone” Serotonin, and the “sleep hormone” Melatonin. Tryptophan is also proven to be an effective remedy for anxiety, which means the pumpkin seed plays a dual health role by helping us reduce anxiety and promoting a restful night’s sleep.
Some consider pumpkin seed powder to be the new ‘warm glass of milk’ when it comes to sleep remedies. In fact, there are many pumpkin seed snacks to indulge on before bed:
- 1 cup of pumpkin seeds with a small apple, pear or other healthy fruit.
- ½ cup of pumpkin seed powder mixed with applesauce or stewed fruit.
- ½ cup seed powder mixed and boiled with warm milk, honey, a teaspoon of turmeric and a pinch of nutmeg.
- ¼ cup of pumpkin seeds (or powder) with 1-2 tablespoons chia seeds and ¾ cup of unsweetened Greek yogurt.
Enjoy your pumpkin sleep, pumpkin dreams, pumpkin everything!
