Whether it’s you or your partner, no one wants to wake up in the middle of the night to Chewbacca’s rendition of what “snoring” sounds like.
Don’t be that guy, or gal! Try these simple tongue exercises for a total of 30 minutes a day for some peace and quiet – and sweet, undisturbed sleep.
Push the tip of your tongue against the roof of your mouth and slide the tongue backward. Repeat 20 time and try this while lying in bed.
Suck your tongue upward so that the entire tongue lies against the roof of your mouth… repeat 20 times.
Force the back of your tongue downward against the floor of your mouth while keeping the tip of your tongue in contact with your bottom front teeth – and yes you’ll have to repeat this several times.
The National Sleep Foundation also recommends:
- Playing a musical wind instrument, like a trumpet – to boost your airways and reduce the likelihood of snoring.
- If you’re overweight - weight loss and sleeping on your side will help reduce snoring.
- Consider asking your partner to use ear plugs if your snoring affects their sleep… assuming they don’t leave you long before then.
Other lifestyle changes include quitting smoking, avoiding too much alcohol, and avoiding sleeping pills – sometimes an inadvertent cause for snoring. If all else fails, you need help… and by that we mean medical counsel. 😂
