2018 Is The Year Of Sleep

2018 Is The Year Of Sleep

In 2017, we saw the rise of sleep trends, gadgets, and technology that raised awareness about the importance of sleep.

But just how we learned new sleep trends, we also realized some traditional sleep norms are dated – and in some cases, we should be doing the exact opposite.

Here are some sleeping habits the new you should adopt this new year:

Take More Naps

Short naps of 20-30 minutes can help improve mood, alertness and performance – especially in the early afternoon, right after that post-lunch sleepiness kicks in.

See a Professional

Sure, we’re all a little crazy but a medical professional will explain a normal night’s sleep doesn’t exist and help you identify your individual sleeping needs/routines.

Stop Rushing to Bed

Chill out – avoid putting your PJs on and brushing your teeth in all of two minutes. Take your time, you don’t want to over-stimulate your mind before it’s supposed to power down.

Forget How Much ‘Sally’ Slept

Sleeping patterns vary by people – if Sally slept eighteen hours last night and you slept five hours but feel amazing than that’s what matters. Focus on your sleep!

Stop Clocking

If you’re struggling to fall asleep, don’t check the time because this will cause your brain to count how many hours of sleep you’ll get ‘from now’ and the blue light from your device will also reduce your chances of falling asleep sooner.

Sleep Comas (Just Kidding…Sorta)

The likelihood of a working adult achieving eight hours of sleep is very slim. When you get the chance, sleep for as long as you can – especially on weekends, don’t feel ashamed to sleep those 13 hours into Saturday.

The SleepOvation team wishes everyone a Happy New Year!
