You Overslept on Election Day? Here’s What You Need to Do!

You Overslept on Election Day? Here’s What You Need to Do!

You're coming down with a cold. You had a little too much wine. You were up too late reading People magazine. You just couldn't stop watching that Lion hunt on Animal Planet…

And now you've slept through your alarm. You're late – forget about going to vote, you’ll be lucky if you even make it to work reasonably late. But it’s important to vote – everyone’s vote counts! Here are your best options to get it done:

Call your boss as soon as you wake up.

Of course, you’ll need to call ahead to notify your boss that you’ll be in late – but try not to commit to a certain time, this way you can detour on your way in to put in your vote. You’re already late… you might as well.

Maybe just call in sick?

It’s 9:15 AM. You were supposed to be at work by 8:30 AM. You’ve got a 90-minute commute to-and-from work. You’re tired. You don’t feel like rushing to go vote and make it to work before Noon. You don’t feel like having to frantically make it home during rush hour before the ballots close. Our advice? Just call out sick and go vote… the future is at stake here.

Show up late – come bearing gifts – leave early.

Although we’re not sure you want to be “that guy”, you could just show up late with coffee, donuts, or maybe even lunch. Act like nothing ever happened – finish your work – and leave early to beat rush hour so you can vote.

It’s a very bold move, but hopefully your boss and coworkers won’t notice after a few Boston Crème donuts. Best of luck!
